This mixture is suitable for large surfaces, outdoor work, in dry conditions and where there is not too much dust. To obtain the best results in terms of brilliance and depth, the 12-hour gilding mixture should be used rather than the 3 Hour mixture. It will also be resistant for longer with a stronger pictorial film.

This mixture is a quick and simple gilding method. It is suitable for indoor work, on wood or plaster. The gold leaf may be applied 30 minutes after the mixture.
Charbonnel gilder clays are in the form of a paste which is finely ground in the traditional manner between granite rollers. The manufacturing process ensures top quality and performance. Gilders clay needs to be mixed with twice its volume of a lukewarm solution of Skin Size. It may then be applied to the object which is to be gilded.

Palette KnivesĀ are blunt with a slightly flexible steel blade and no sharpened cutting edge. They are used in place of a brush for applying paint colors, paste, pigments, and so forth directly onto the canvas or painting surface. Between the handle and the blade there is usually a large crank, to keep the artist’s hand off the paint surface. Painting knives come in a multitude of styles, shapes, and sizes.
